Individual in style,
yet seamless together…

Our Story

Run by local estate agents Jonjo Hammond and Alison Smith, we have a combined experience of over 30 years in the property industry.

Having worked together since 2010, starting at a large corporate in Epping, we formed a strong bond from start sharing a love of property and interiors.  Quickly identified as the new “Kirsty and Phil” of the town, we are individual in style, yet seamless together – Jonjo, calm with a cool head, and Alison with strong energy and passion!

Strongly believing people deserve better from an outdated industry full of pushy salespeople, in 2021, Hammond and Smith was born. Starting small (literally from a summerhouse in Alison’s Garden) but dreaming big, Alison and Jonjo have created a ‘family’ ethos for Hammond & Smith, full of warmth, compassion, and individual style.

Why choose us?

Determined to make the estate agency experience a better one, our approach is three-fold:

Authentic

You and your home are unique and should be treated that way. We don’t treat our clients as a number or make false promises! It’s our mission to treat every client as unique – each with their own story, budget and wish list.

Community Focused

Passionate about giving back locally and doing our bit, we are proudly community focused – after all, it’s where we raise our own kids! From understanding how important the little things are (from the best places to walk the dog, to great parks to take the kids) to giving a % of every fee we make to planting new trees and supporting local groups and businesses, community is everything to us!

Local People

Rooted in our local community, we know the area inside out. With in-depth local property knowledge, we also give plenty of extras along the way – from the best pubs for a pint to the latest restaurant hotspots. Proud to call this area our home, we want to continue to make Epping, Harlow and the surrounding area a great place to raise our own families.

‘Alison and Jonjo have proven themselves time and time again. Super professional and trustworthy. They made one of the most stressful times of my life as smooth as possible. Not all heroes wear capes!!!’

Our Family

Alison Smith

Director & Co-Founder

Alison Smith started her property career in Epping whilst raising her family in the local area.

“My children have both attended local schools, firstly at Ivy Chimneys and then Epping St Johns, where I was once a proud member of the PTA. Sales is my passion and I love nothing more than helping a customer find their dream home. I consider myself incredibly lucky to live in Epping and to be part of such a strong community. I am a very vibrant and positive person”.

Jonjo Hammond

Director & Co-Founder

Jonjo Hammond started his estate agency career in 2006 working in Harlow & Church Langley before covering Woodford, Wanstead and Epping.

“Having worked for both independent and corporate agents, I have a great understanding of the local property market. With first-hand knowledge of how difficult the whole experience can be, I always put myself in the customers shoes, offering a calm and reassuring approach. A Walthamstow and Epping boy, I have travelled the world living in both Australia and Thailand, but I can think of no better place than here to live and raise my family”.

Joe Leeves

Lettings Manager

Joe Leeves started his property career in Epping and quickly progressed as a well-liked and leading local estate agent. Whilst starting his career in sales, Joe quickly showed a natural gift for lettings. He is a trusted and dependable member of the Hammond & Smith family for both sales and lettings.

“I am often told I have a wise head on young shoulders and I really enjoy interacting with people. It’s my goal to get the best results for my clients, whether for a short-term fix or long-term home”.

Jack Spittlehouse

Sales Manager

Jack started his estate agency career in Epping for a local corporate agent and over time has built up some great relationships with the local Epping community and surrounding towns and villages. Having joined Hammond & Smith in 2023, he’s quickly become an integral and much-loved part of our family.

“Hi! I’m Jack, I currently live in Bishops Stortford and have 3 loves – Arsenal, British Bulldogs and Houses. Since the day I started my estate agency career I’ve never liked being called an estate agent and still try to act differently, dress differently and most importantly with care and respect for everyone I meet. I love helping people move here, it’s a great place to be!”

Carly Hammond

Head of Marketing

A former museum curator with a love for interiors and the arts, Carly brings a fresh perspective to our marketing and community engagement.

“I worked locally in museums for over 14 years – a role all about telling stories of people and places. So it’s great bringing this across to H&S, whether through the write ups of people’s homes or working with community groups. One of my first jobs was actually behind the bar at The George and Dragon in Epping, so it’s a town I love and also the place where I met my husband – Jonjo!”

Sarah Strouts

Property Advisor

Originally from Yorkshire, Sarah moved down South to London and lived locally in Buckhurst Hill before moving to Epping in 2009.

“After living in London for 10 years, my husband and I wanted to find the perfect place to raise a family which is why we chose Epping. With London a short tube ride away, the forest and fantastic high street on our doorstep what more could we want. I started working at H&S just over a year ago. I don’t consider working here as a job, I’m doing what I love…helping people find their perfect home in an area which is often voted one of the best places for commuters and families to live. I am a very social and caring person, who takes pride in what I do and feel lucky to be part of the H&S family.”

Teddy Little Legs

Office Dog

Hi, I’m Teddy Little Legs. I am a rescue dog and very much part of the Hammond & Smith team. I like to take long walks in Epping and the surrounding areas. Some of my favourite walks are Bell Common, Wintry Wood and Stonards Park, to name a few.

If your dogs need any recommendations on the best walks, eating out, lamp posts, or places to sniff in Epping Forest, please give me a call…I’d be happy to help!
